# Managing People

### Registering a Person

Click **Register Person** in the top-right corner of the People page. A form opens with these fields:

* **External ID**, an optional identifier from your external system, up to 255 characters, unique
* **First name**, up to 100 characters
* **Last name**, up to 100 characters
* **Email address**, in valid email format, up to 254 characters
* **Mobile prefix**, a country dialling code from the dropdown
* **Mobile number**, digits only, up to 15 characters
* **Date of birth**, in DD-MM-YYYY format
* **Language**, the person's preferred language

Custom attributes from **Settings > People Attributes** appear below these fields. Required attributes need a value before you can save.

#### Consent Checkboxes

Three consent options at the bottom of the form record what this person opted into:

* **Email Consent**
* **SMS Consent**
* **Push Notifications Consent**

An unticked box means **not consented**. Creating a person never opts them in. Tick a box only where the person actually agreed.

Email and SMS consent summarise the person's [consents](/docs/settings/workspace/consents.md). Ticking one records agreement to be contacted on that channel and grants your starter consent, **Email updates** or **SMS updates**. It opts the person into none of your other consents, such as Marketing, which keep their own defaults. Push notification consent is an ordinary flag.

#### Create More

Turn on **Create more** in the footer to keep the form open after saving. You can then register several people in a row.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** creating or updating a person fires any active automations tied to that action.
{% endhint %}

### Editing a Person

Open a person's detail page and edit any field in the **Properties** panel on the right. Flapjax tracks your changes. Click **Save** when you are ready, and moving away from the page saves them too.

You can also edit a person through the registration form, opened from the detail page header.

***

### Deleting a Person

Open the actions menu, the three dots in the header of a person's detail page, and select **Delete**. Flapjax asks you to confirm.

You can delete people in bulk from the People list: select rows, then choose **Delete** from the batch action bar.

#### What deletion actually does

Deleting a person is a **soft delete**. Flapjax marks the person record as deleted, so it leaves the app and drops out of every query, and keeps the underlying row. The action is recoverable rather than a permanent wipe.

Deletion runs as one transaction with this cascade:

* **Record references get unlinked.** Any record pointing at this person through a Person or People attribute has that reference cleared. A single-person reference goes empty, and the person leaves multi-person lists. The records themselves stay.
* **Label membership goes.** Flapjax deletes the person's direct label-membership rows, and the event pipeline unwinds any smart-label membership afterwards.
* **List items get soft-deleted.** The person's rows in campaign and communication lists are marked deleted.
* **Notes and automation history stay.** Deletion erases neither the notes on the person nor the record of automations they passed through.

Flapjax publishes a person-deleted event to its event pipeline, so downstream consumers can react. Smart-label reconciliation is one of them.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Data-retention note:** a soft delete leaves deleted people recoverable, with their notes and automation history intact. A regulatory obligation to erase a person's data fully needs more than the Delete action. Raise it with your Flapjax contact.
{% endhint %}

### Sending an Email

Click the **envelope icon** in the header of a person's detail page. The person needs an email address for it to appear.

A full-screen editor opens with:

* **Integration**, the email provider you send through, such as SendGrid
* **Subject**, the subject line, which supports variables such as person name or attributes
* **Email Content**, a rich text editor for the body

Click **Send email** to deliver the message.

***

### Sending an SMS or WhatsApp Message

Click the **message icon** for SMS, or the **WhatsApp icon**, in the header of a person's detail page. Both need the person to have a mobile prefix and number.

A panel opens with:

* **Integration**, the messaging provider you use, such as Twilio
* **Message Content**, a text editor for the body

The template selector button loads a saved message template into the editor.

Click **Send message** to deliver.

***

### Enrolling in a Sequence

Click the **paper plane icon** in the header of a person's detail page.

A modal appears with a dropdown of active sequences. It lists only sequences configured for manual enrolment. Click **Enroll** to push the person into the one you picked.

You can enrol people in bulk from the People list: select rows, then choose **Run Sequence** from the batch action bar.

### Copying Person Information

The actions menu, the three dots on a person's detail page, offers two copies:

* **Copy External ID** puts the person's external ID on your clipboard. It appears only for people who have one.
* **Copy Page URL** puts a direct link to this person's detail page on your clipboard.
