# Browsing People

### The People List

Your contacts fill a scrollable data sheet that loads more rows as you scroll. Each row is one person and opens their detail page on click.

The default columns are:

* **Full Name**, the person's first and last name
* **External ID**, an identifier from your external system
* **Email**, the person's email address
* **Mobile**, phone number with prefix
* **Language**, the person's preferred language
* **Labels**, any labels on this person

Custom attributes you created in **Settings > People Attributes** appear as extra columns.

***

### Source Type

Every person carries a built-in **Source Type**. You can show it as a column in the grid and filter on it as a field.

It records **how that person entered the system**. Flapjax stamps it once at creation and never changes it afterwards. It is a system field, so you do not create it yourself and will not find it in **People Attributes**. It is always available as a filter, with nine options:

* **API**, created through a REST API call.
* **Manual**, added here in the backoffice interface.
* **Import**, created by a CSV import.
* **Automation**, created by an automation.
* **Label Rule**, created by a label rule assigning membership.
* **RabbitMQ**, created from an AMQP ingest message.
* **Callback Event**, created from a channel provider's callback, meaning a delivery or engagement event.
* **Auto-Created**, a stub created to satisfy a relationship reference.
* **Unsubscribe Page**, created from a consent write on the hosted unsubscribe page.

Source Type is set at creation and never moves, which makes it a reliable way to segment people by origin. For the full data-model reference, see [Source Type in Data Types](/docs/core-concepts/data-types.md#6-special-types).

### Searching

The search bar finds people by name or email address. Results update as you type.

***

### Sorting

Click **Sort** in the top-left toolbar to flip between ascending and descending order. Flapjax remembers your choice across sessions.

***

### View Settings

Click **View Settings** to control which columns appear and how they sit.

The popover lets you:

* **Show or hide columns** by ticking or unticking any column
* **Reorder columns** by dragging the grip handle next to a column name
* **Set a default column** with "Set Default", which pins it to the left of the sheet
* **Select All / Deselect All** to show or hide every column at once
* **Add attribute** to create a new people attribute without leaving the page
* **Reset** to return columns to their default arrangement

Click **Apply** to save. Your settings hold across sessions.

### Batch Actions

Select one or more people with the row checkboxes, or use **Select All** to take everyone matching your current filters. A floating action bar appears at the bottom of the screen.

The action bar offers:

* **Assign Label**, adding a label to the selected people
* **Remove Label**, taking a label off them

The **More** dropdown adds:

* **Send Email**, composing and sending an email to the selected people
* **Send SMS**, sending an SMS message
* **Send WhatsApp**, sending a WhatsApp message
* **Run Sequence**, enrolling the selected people into an active sequence
* **Export**, downloading the selected people as a CSV file
* **Update Attributes**, changing attribute values in bulk
* **Delete**, removing the selected people permanently

#### Select all, minus a few

**Select All** targets everyone matching your current filters, not just the rows on screen. The count in the action bar covers the whole filtered set.

You can then untick individual rows. The bar shows how many you excluded, hovering it lists them, and excluded rows stay marked. Flapjax sends those exclusions with the action, so it runs against everything matching the filter **except** those rows. That holds for people who never loaded into the grid.

Exclusions apply to every bulk action that supports select-all: labels, list add and remove, attribute updates, sends, sequence enrolment, export and delete.

#### Long-running bulk actions

Large bulk actions run in the background and report progress in a toast.

Start one and switch tabs, or watch a colleague start one on the same workspace, and the toast follows you. It names the actor, either "You (in another tab)" or another user's name, plus the action, then reports completion or failure. Only data-altering actions refresh the grid as they finish.

### Import & Export

The **Import / Export** dropdown in the top-right corner offers:

* **Import CSV**, uploading a CSV file to add contacts in bulk. See the Importing & Exporting guide.
* **Export CSV**, downloading every person matching your current filters
* **Export selected as CSV**, downloading only the rows you selected

### The sidebar

The left sidebar holds your saved segments and a shortcut to the **Attributes** settings page. Click any segment to filter the list down to the people matching its rules.
