# Import History

**Settings → Monitoring → Import History**

CSV imports run **in the background**. Start one from the People page or a stack and Flapjax accepts it immediately, then processes it behind the scenes as you carry on working.

Import History is the org-wide log of those runs. Every import, for people and for every stack, in one place.

The same history appears scoped to where you launched from. **People → Import / Export → Import history** shows people imports. A stack's **Import / Export → Import history** shows that stack's imports. All three open the same view with a different scope.

The Settings page needs the data-management settings permission. The scoped views follow your People and Stacks permissions.

## The run list

Newest first, loading more as you scroll:

| Column | Shows |
| -------------- | ----------------------------------- |
| **File name** | The CSV you uploaded |
| **Status** | Where the run stands, covered below |
| **Rows** | Successful rows out of total rows |
| **Started at** | The time the import began |
| **Created by** | Who started it |

### Statuses

| Status | Meaning |
| ------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Processing** | Still running. The detail view shows live progress |
| **Completed** | Every row imported successfully |
| **Completed with errors** | The import finished and some rows failed. Open it to see which |
| **Failed** | The run could not finish, say it passed the processing time limit. The detail view gives the reason |
| **Interrupted** | Service maintenance or similar cut the run short. Re-run the import for the remaining data |

## The run detail

Click a run to open it.

**During processing** you get a live progress bar reading "Processing *X* of *Y* rows", refreshed every couple of seconds.

**After it finishes** you get three tiles: **Total rows**, **Successful** and **Failed**.

**Row-level errors** appear whenever rows fail. The table lists each one with its **row number, the field concerned and the error message**, so you can fix the source file precisely. Flapjax caps very large failure sets and stores the first 1,000 errors.

Common row errors: a value that does not fit the target field's type, a missing required value, a duplicate `external_id` inside the file, or an `external_id` that exists in Flapjax already. **Imports create new entries and never update existing ones.** A row that collides with existing data fails on its own, and the rest of the file carries on.

## Behaviour worth knowing

* **One import at a time per target.** A people import in progress blocks another people import. A stack's import in progress blocks another for that stack. Flapjax refuses the second one until the first finishes.
* **You can leave the page.** A progress toast tracks the import and tells you how it settled. The full outcome always waits here in the history.
* **There is no cancel.** A running import ends by finishing or failing. Runs carry a time limit, so nothing sits at "Processing" forever.
* **Re-running.** No retry button exists. Fix your CSV using the row errors and upload it again. Imports never overwrite existing entries, so a corrected file only touches the rows that failed before.

For the upload wizard itself, covering file limits, column mapping and value review, see [Importing & Exporting People](/docs/your-data/people/importing-and-exporting.md) and [Importing & Exporting Records](/docs/your-data/stacks/importing-and-exporting.md).
