# Email Templates

### Viewing Templates

The template list shows each item by **Name**, its **Type** of Template or Snippet, and who last updated it. The search bar finds one by name.

### Templates and snippets

Every entry is one of two types, and you pick the type as you create it. Both live in the same library, and the email editor inserts both from the same picker.

* A **Template** is a whole email body. Pick one in the email editor and it **replaces** whatever sits in the editor. Use templates for complete emails you reuse as a starting point: a welcome mail, a bonus reminder, a monthly newsletter.
* A **Snippet** is a reusable fragment such as a header, a footer or a promo block. Pick one and Flapjax **inserts it at your cursor** instead of replacing the body, so you can drop it into an email you are composing.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Type is fixed once created.** You choose Template or Snippet at creation and cannot change it later. Need the other type? Create a new entry.
{% endhint %}

### Creating a template or snippet

Open the **New template** menu in the top-right corner and choose **Template** or **Snippet**. A side panel opens with:

* **Name**, a descriptive name, required
* **Type**, a read-only tag reflecting your choice from the menu
* **Content**, the email body, or the fragment on a snippet

A **template** gives you the same two authoring modes you get everywhere email is composed. **Text** mode writes and formats like a document, with no HTML needed. **HTML source** hands you raw markup for full layout control. See [Two ways to write an email](/docs/automations/actions/communication.md#two-ways-to-write-an-email-text-and-html-source).

A **snippet** is always edited as HTML source. It gets spliced into other emails, so it stays raw markup.

Click **Save** to create the entry.

### Editing a Template

Click any template in the list to reopen the editor panel. Make your changes and click **Save**.

***

### Deleting a Template

Open the actions menu next to a template and select **Delete**. Flapjax removes it permanently.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** automation email actions can load your templates for a quick start. Rather than composing an email from scratch in every automation, select a template and adjust it.
{% endhint %}

### Variables and multi-language

Templates and snippets can carry `{{variables}}` such as `{{person.first_name}}`, exactly like any email body. This page never fills those in. Flapjax resolves them per recipient at the moment the email action sends.

Two points about how templates relate to an email action:

* **Loading a template replaces the editor body.** Pick a template in the email action and its content lands in the editor in place of what was there. A snippet arrives at your cursor instead. Either way the template is a starting point you then edit, and the action keeps no link back to it.
* **Multi-language delivery lives on the email action, not on the template.** You configure language variants such as Default, `fr` and `de` on the Send Email action, and Flapjax resolves them per recipient at send time. A template holds no language variants, so loading one carries none across. Set them up on the action. See [Send Email, multi-language worked end to end](/docs/automations/actions/communication.md#multi-language-worked-end-to-end).
