# Report Types & Chart Options

### Insight Reports

An insight report is a point-in-time snapshot of your data. It answers questions such as "how many people are in each country?" or "what is the average order value by product category?"

#### Single Metric

With no grouping applied, the report shows one large number, such as "1,234 People". Configure a target entity with a different aggregation, say Sum of a numeric field, and the source count appears above the metric value for context.

#### Bar Chart

Vertical bars, one per group. Segmentation gives each group several bars, one per segment, or stacks them. Sort bars alphabetically or by amount, ascending or descending.

#### Line Chart

Smooth curves connecting data points, one point per group on the x-axis. It suits group labels that carry a natural order.

#### Pie Chart

A full circle split into segments, one per group, with proportions as percentages. Best for a small number of groups.

#### Donut Chart

A pie chart with a hollow centre. The centre can carry summary information.

#### Map Chart

An interactive world map coloured by country values. It appears when the **Grouped by** field is a country attribute.

Hover a country for its value in a tooltip. Click one to drill into the contributing records. A legend and data panel beside the map list every country with its count.

### Historical Reports

A historical report shows how your data changed over time, bucketed by each entity's **creation date**. It answers questions such as "how has our user count grown this quarter?" or "what is the daily intake of new orders?" Each interval counts, or aggregates over, the people and records *created* inside it.

#### Line Chart

The default for historical reports. A smooth time-series curve with a data point at each interval. Segmentation gives each segment value its own coloured line.

#### Bar Chart

Vertical bars at each time interval, stackable when segmented. Sort chronologically or by amount.

#### Area Chart

A line chart with a gradient fill underneath, which makes volume over time easier to read.

### Shared Features

These features cover both report types and most chart types.

#### Target Line

A horizontal dashed line at a value of your choosing, marking a goal or benchmark. Available on Bar and Line charts, insight and historical alike. Turn it on in the Visualisation section and enter a number.

#### Axis Labels

Turn the x-axis and y-axis labels on or off. Available on Bar and Line charts.

#### Show Zeros

Turned on, the chart includes groups and time intervals whose value is zero. Turned off, it hides them. Available on Bar charts.

#### Segmentation

Split your data by a second attribute. Insight reports then show several bars per group, or stacked bars. Historical reports show several lines on the same time-series chart, one per segment value. Each segment gets a distinct colour.

#### Header Statistics

Each report card carries summary statistics in its header bar:

* **Insight reports** show the total matched records, plus the aggregated value where a different aggregation applies, such as "1,234 People, Sum: 56,789".
* **Historical reports** show the peak value and the average across the time range.

#### Contributing Data

Click any bar, slice, point or country to open a panel of the individual records behind that data point. The panel shows a table of matching records, with columns suited to the data source. A report with a target entity shows both source and target records.

The table icon in the report header opens all contributing data without picking a data point first.

From the contributing-data panel you can export the underlying records as CSV. That export reuses the same People and Records exporters as the [People](/docs/your-data/people/importing-and-exporting.md) and [Records](/docs/your-data/stacks/importing-and-exporting.md) export flows, so the same access rules apply. See those pages for detail.

#### Report Card Actions

Hover a report card's header for its action icons. A **drag handle** reorders the card on the dashboard. **Edit** reopens the report in the builder. **Download as Image** exports the chart as a PNG. **Delete** removes the report after a confirmation.

### Truncation

An insight report with more than 50 groups shows the top groups and a notice at the bottom, such as "Showing top 50 of 234 groups". **Show more** expands the chart in increments. **View table** opens all the data in the contributing data panel.
